[REVIEW] Ry X Takes Over San Francisco's Grace Cathedral
Last Friday, Ry X took his fans to church - and not just in the figurative sense. The Australian-born singer-songwriter sold out two consecutive nights at San Francisco’s renowned and cherished, Grace Cathedral.
Behind every headliner, however, is a slot for a deserving opening act and Charlie Cunningham proved himself more than worthy for the task. Cunningham delivered an intimate acoustic set, his voice accompanied only by a guitar. The authentic nature of his performance was driven by expressions of gratitude sprinkled throughout, revealing Cunningham’s gentle, humble demeanor. The audience was left with a peaceful energy just in time to welcome Ry X and his band to the stage.
Between the cascading LED installation emanating vibrant color patterns across the space and Ry X skillfully alternating instruments, it was a deeply entrancing experience quite fit for the venue. The set seemingly concluded with one of his most well-known tracks, “Howling,” only to be followed up with an encore, turning an already satisfied crowd into a glowing one. It’s no wonder he has been recognized and sought out by some of the top artists in the industry.
